City of Literature badge of houour for Dublin

Today 27th July 2010 Dublin was honored with the designation as Unesco "City of Literature"


"Dublin has been awarded this accolade because of the rich historical literary past of the city, the vibrant contemporary literature, the variety of festivals and attractions available and because it is the birthplace and home of literary greats" according to the Irish Minister for Tourism Ms. Mary Hanafin

A website to celebrate the achievement has been set up, dublincityofliterature.com , which highlights literary events and explains the city's history and heritage.

Congratulations Dublin.

Dublin City Soul Festival 27th May 2010

The now annual Dublin City Soul Festival kicks off on the 27th May for 4 days. This unique 4 day festival, now celebrating its 4th year, offers a variety of much needed reasons to be cheerful ! The Main event is the Soul Picnic in Merrion Square on Sunday 30th May. This event is completely free and a great family day out.

International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival

The International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival kicks off on 03th May for 2 weeks with an array of attractions and performances.

The Festival was founded in 2004 to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Oscar Wilde, in his native city.

With an emphasis on new or recent international and Irish works with a broadly gay theme or relevance, the Festival has grown to become the largest event of its type in the world.

Disney comes to Dublin

Here’s one for the young and young at heart – Disney brings Three Classic Fairy Tales to Dublin’s new Grand Canal Theatre.

There are 9 performances between the 22nd and 25th April. Tickets from €20.00.

The Grand Canal Theatre is a 20 minute walk or 8 minutes by taxi from Cassidys.

Dublin gets its running shoes on

The Great Ireland Run takes place in Dublin’s Phoenix Park on 18th April at 1pm with over 10,500 runners already signed up.

It is a great day out even if you are not participating in the 10km fun run.

There will be music, activities and fun for all the family.

There is a junior run (2.5km) for 8 – 15 year olds also on the day.

Cassidys is located a short LUAS ride or number 10 bus ride from the Phoenix park. For those with a little more energy it will take you approx 30 minutes to walk to the park.

Anyone staying with us on Sunday evening 18th April and taking part in the great run can avail of a complimentary late check out the following day giving you a little extra time to recover.
